There continues to be a steep increase in the Hispanic population in the United States and nowhere is that more evident than in the state of California. California is a border state and has a lot to offer as far as jobs and income for those choosing to immigrate.
The Hispanic community is one of the fastest growing communities in America this decade and according to the most recent American community survey, there are now 6.3 million more Hispanics living in America than there were in 2010.
This latest data represents the largest absolute growth, and a 14.9 percent increase. This increase gives Hispanics the third largest percentage change for any race. All this according to the Census race and ethnicity definition.
As it turns out, California is well represented in these latest figures. The data reveal that there has been a 10.8 percent increase in the Hispanic population in California.
So now the challenge was to find out where most of those Hispanics who are settling in California choose to live. To find out the most recent data, researchers went to the Census’s most recently available data, specifically the 2012-2016 American Community Survey data from the US Census.
The data were compiled and examined to reveal where the most Hispanic live in California. From 1 to 10, the cities in California with the largest Hispanic populations are:
- Mendota
- Maywood
- Huron
- Parlier
- Coachella
- Calexico
- Huntington Park
- Cudahy
- Orange Cove
- Commerce
For 2018, Mendota took the number 1 spot for the California city with the largest Hispanic population. As the Hispanic population in America, and especially in California continues to grow there will no doubt be changes to this list. There are many factors that play a part in determining where people choose to live. It will be interesting to see if the Hispanic population changes its preferences in the next few years.
